I'm struggling with the idea of not taking the computer with me; so maybe I will. It's the summer – it will be hot during the high afternoon hours – and, on Monday, I'll be by myself. I can put a headstart on the Revival of Code 2023, and also keep updating the blog.

It's already quite late in the evening – in fact, it's 10PM and I should be preparing for sleep – but João and I just finished dinner and at this point might as well go out for a walk, and eventually help the digestion. The day didn't have such a good weather, which is totally fine as long as it doesn't rain (supposing the weather wouldn't be much different from Slovenia, I didn't bring any rain protection). I handle the cold much better than I do the heat, anyway.

It was nice to revisit Shakespeare and Co., but it was quite crowded, and there wasn't enough space (maybe nor patience) to really scan the bookshelves and see what was up; I felt much more impressed back in November, when Arne Naess' book really struck a chord with me. Tomorrow is Sunday, and traditionally almost nothing happens in Vienna, in terms of commerce; at most, there will be some cafés open.

(the following note was added on 2023-07-29-Saturday)

As I was rummaging through the old phone pictures, I noticed these two documents of the meal we had that night; and it occurred to me that back in October last year, when I first went to Vienna to meet João, I offered my cooking services throughout all of my stay. Off the top of my head, I believe it was the first time I volunteered myself as such; it seemed natural, given that I was on holidays while he hosted me during a working week, that I'd do my best to make his life easier, and ideally more pleasant.

I'll never forget the and very earnest impression the food caused with my friend, as not only then, but for months after, he'd remember me how much he enjoyed having it; that in turn made me realise I might actually be starting to become a decent cook. Naturally, I took upon the task once more, and even if the looks don't do it much justice, these were some very hearty and nutritious meals which I very much enjoyed sharing with my friend.

Whenever I find myself in a city with easy access to ingredients – and when I don't mind having leftovers which will certainly be better the day after – I go for a hearty big pot of lentils, very often spiced with some curcuma and pepper, accompanied by assorted vegetables.
I also baked some oat cakes for the day after; João, not wanting to waste the heat generated in the oven, went ahead and did some eggs with the leftover energy. I had never seen this before; in fact, I don't think anybody has. But they were edible.
