Reynolds coined the concept of ‘hyperstasis’ because he struggled to find the radical in contemporary music, but he was so fixated on locating new genres and styles that he was looking in the wrong places. This is radical music, not because it memorialises the past but because it re-examines it, bringing forgotten parts of history to life in the present.
