As the following pivot diagram shows, using the metaphor of a funnel, the agenda of imposing a false order in our thoughts gradually channels a yearning for coherence into living a narrower life. If we’re seeking to make our self-story coherent so that it conforms to social expectations, it’s time to stop investing in that goal. If we’re choosing to follow rigid rules that offer a simplistic coherence of “the answers” in life, we need to let go of that impulse.
