bicycle

One of the first pictures I have of this bicycle. I was on my way to Ptuj, in Slovenia.

During the most recent bikepacking trip, I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate some space to my own bicycle — my most important bicycle, let's put it that way; and the reasons (for this idea) are plenty. It has been in my life since the Summer of 2023, and I got it off Facebook Marketplace. We had agreed on 40 euros, and the exchange would happen on the train platform of Celje. I was coming back from Ljubljana, shortly after a very pleasant week in Bela Krajina region, and the seller put a 10€ discount on top, as the seat was not in a very good condition. I did many kilometers in Slovenia, going back and forth between the hour-long commute between the farm in Jurovski Dol and the nearest city of Maribor, and the first big travel happened between the very same farm and my home in Portugal, with plenty of trains and a ferry, through Italy and Spain.

My last trip — from Oslo to Copenhagen — displayed some unpreparedness, and a neglect to the materials I rely on. This bicycle needs some other components to make it more comfortable and reliable, and I also need to learn a bit more to become a bit more self-sufficient. I am not a bicycle mechanic by any means — I will only venture as far as fixing a tube, or changing a tyre — but my chain broke once, and were it not for my really handy friends, I would have a had a very unpleasant afternoon.

I will come back to this later. The frame is a Scott San Diego, apparently from 1993.
