The evidence suggests that intelligence, much investigated as it has been, is an ill-conceived notion. This volume defines an alternative: educability. Educability is the capability to learn and acquire belief systems from oneβs own experience and from others, and to apply these to new situations. A belief system here can be a scientific or political theory, a religion, a superstition, or a narrative in fiction. My subject is the extraordinary human facility to absorb and apply beliefs whether about science, creeds, or conspiracy theories.
