Very recently, in the context of a really nice event we recently had, I opened with the question what is information? In my experience (sample of three – so far?) people are slow to react, maybe taken aback. Information is difficult to define. Even Wikipedia has trouble: as of today,

Information is an abstract concept that refers to something which has the power to inform.

(where to inform links to the page for communication).

It is naturally not enough. I tried a naive definition that would simultaneously motivate having this platform, but there are more rigorous approaches (some I had, but lost in the meantime: one in Virtual Unreality, where the author defines information by what is not noise; a more rigorous perspective comes in The Importance of Being Educable).
