A slow burn. I thought nothing would ever match the sassy and playful, nostalgic energy of Essentials — those times are long gone, yet the record still holds up — but Erika never stood still. Always on the move, experimenting, figuring new things out; this record sounds a little different (maybe the producing team?) and it packs a sweet, mellow, mature collection of songs.
One day, you live to see my face
Next day, you don't reply
Don't see why
It's like you're wanting me to chase you
It's love, and vulnerability, desire, worth, shame — some flair in the phone tone on Chase; a wandering, frail exploration on You Can't Always Get What You Want.
What you see in me
Is a symbol of my youth
A promise l can't keep to you
I hope you understand
That this is just a body
And time will take its toll on me
Health or disease
You never know what you got
Might as well live gratefully
Sex and desire
Two things we'd like to have
But without love, it's not the same
