I think there has been a strong tendency over the last decade (possibly more — it's not like I am up to date on the literature or anything of the sort: for all I know, it could just be that Baader-Meinhof thing at play here) — anyway, a strong tendency to consider the impact of community on the notion of self and mental health. Recently, Jonathan Haidt is taking the spotlight, but some of these concerns hail back to the situationists, if not even prior.
