I'm trying to learn Slovene, because I find it tremendously awkward to be living in a country whose language I do not understand (nevertheless, in the premises of the farm we almost always communicate in English with one another, thus limiting my exposure to the language).

My first try at adult language learning happened around May of '23, with Slovene. That didn't go so well — if we consider the goal of conversational fluency — but it certainly sparked an interest in how to do this better (because sometimes we need to learn quickly: it suffices to consider the case of going abroad for job opportunities).
A year later came the Greek 🇬🇷 (started April '24), and I am now (August '24) getting my feet wet with Danish 🇩🇰. This on-going experience not only my broadened my cultural horizons, it also tied with a long-standing interest in cognition.
Here are some general tips for language learning, whereas each language link will have more advice specific to itself. There's also a few (scattered) thoughts about the intersection between Greek, English and Portuguese; recently, I came across a big bunch of avenues to explore with regard to language learning — these are recommended for the most curious!
